Infant Bailey was stillborn on August 18, 1912, to William Bailey and Lucy Street, both of Halifax County, Virginia. At the time, the family lived at 420 10th Avenue NE in Roanoke, where William worked as a laborer and Lucy as a domestic worker.
Though this child never had the chance to live beyond birth, his brief existence is part of the story of a young family building a life in Roanoke in the early twentieth century.
Infant Bailey is remembered here, a quiet presence in the history of a family and a neighborhood.
