Bailey, Infant

Year: 1945

Infant Bailey was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on December 25, 1945, the daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte Bailey and Dorothy Smith Bailey. She died just two days later, on December 27, 1945, from melena.

Her parents had married earlier that year, on July 3, 1945, and were living at 529 7th Avenue NE. Napoleon Bailey was a World War II veteran who worked as a truck driver.

Napoleon and Dorothy remained together in Roanoke for nearly fifty years. Following the loss of their infant daughter, they went on to have six more children—two sons and four daughters. During their lifetime, they witnessed the destruction and relocation of much of Old Lick Cemetery as part of the construction of Interstate 581 and the transformation of the surrounding Gainsboro neighborhood.

Dorothy Smith Bailey died on March 5, 1993. Napoleon Bonaparte Bailey died on October 6, 1999. The couple rests together at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.
