Edenbourgh, Bettie

Bettie Edenbourgh was born on November 11, 1890, in Bedford County, Virginia, to Edward and Kittie Dudley Burress. She later married Morris Edenbourgh and made her home in Roanoke at 616 9th Avenue NE.

She worked as a domestic, part of a labor force of women whose work sustained households throughout the growing city. Through her work and family ties, she was part of the fabric of her community.

Bettie Edenbourgh died on November 20, 1920, from septic peritonitis caused by a fibroid tumor. She is remembered here as a daughter, a wife, and a working woman whose life, though not widely recorded, was no less significant.
