Ruth Ragsdale was born on September 13, 1914, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Phillip and Ellen Bessie Ragsdale. Her father worked as a laborer, supporting the family at their home at 209 10th Avenue NE.
Her life was tragically brief. Ruth passed away on March 8, 1915, at just under six months old, from cerebrospinal meningitis, a serious and often fatal illness in the early twentieth century. Though her time was short, she remains part of the historical record of a family and community whose stories continue to be remembered.
